Will AI take my job?
Probably not your whole job, but it will likely change parts of it. AI is best at tasks, not complete jobs: writing drafts, summing up documents, answering routine questions and writing code. Some jobs will shrink and new ones will appear, as with earlier technologies.

Tasks change before jobs do
Most jobs are a mix of many tasks. AI can take over some of them and leave the rest. A lawyer may spend less time on first drafts and more on advice. A support team may answer simple questions with AI and spend its time on hard cases.
Will AI replace programmers?
Several large tech companies say AI now writes a large share of their new code, and coding agents can finish whole tasks. Programmers spend more time on deciding what to build, reviewing code and checking that it works.
Entry-level work changes the most. Junior developers who use AI tools well can learn faster, but there may be fewer jobs that only consist of simple coding.
What the data shows
Statistics offices count jobs every month. So far, the numbers show changes in some fields, not a sudden loss of jobs across the economy. Look at official employment data for your field and country instead of predictions.
We are optimistic. Earlier technologies, from the steam engine to the computer, removed some jobs and created new kinds of work, and we expect AI to do the same.
What you can do
A few steps help in almost any job:
- Try AI tools on your own work and see which tasks they do well.
- Spend more time on what AI does badly: judgement, trust, care and responsibility.
- Follow your field’s news at the source, so you see changes early.
