Can I buy Anthropic shares?
Not yet. On 26 October 2026, Anthropic filed an S-1 with the US Securities and Exchange Commission for a proposed initial public offering of its Class A shares. The number of shares and the price have not been set, and the filing is not yet effective. Until the shares start trading, most people cannot buy them.

What an S-1 is
An S-1 is the document a company files before it sells shares to the public in the United States. It describes the business, its risks, how it is run and its audited accounts.
A filing is a step, not a date. The SEC reviews it, and the company can change it, delay the offering or stop it.
What happens next
Before you can buy shares, a few more things must happen:
- Anthropic sets a price range and the number of shares in an updated filing.
- The SEC declares the registration effective.
- The shares are priced and start to trade on an exchange. Then you can buy them through a broker.
Read the filing, not the hype
The S-1 is the best source on Anthropic’s business, because the company is legally responsible for what it says there. Read the risk factors and the section on how the company is controlled, including its Long-Term Benefit Trust.
Be careful with offers of “pre-IPO” shares before the listing. Many are scams. This guide is general information, not financial advice.
